Why Search Optimisation Now Means More Than Google Rankings

July 26, 2026

More people are starting a search in ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overviews instead of a traditional results page — and none of those tools rank a page the way a classic search algorithm does. They summarise, cite, and recommend, which means the businesses that show up in those answers aren’t necessarily the ones that would have ranked highest in a normal search a year ago.

That shift doesn’t call for a brand new, separately-branded discipline bolted onto a website. It calls for the same core work, extended. Structuring content so it’s genuinely useful, clearly written, and easy for a machine to parse and trust is still SEO’s job — it’s just that the “machine” reading it now includes AI systems generating answers, not only search engines generating a results page.

That’s why it’s sold as one combined capability — SEO / GEO Content — rather than a separately-invented service for the AI half. Deeper work here means structuring and writing content so it holds up in both a traditional search result and an AI-generated answer, not choosing one over the other.

It isn’t included in every build by default — the depth of work involved makes it a genuine add-on, not something folded quietly into a base price. But it’s also not something worth waiting on. The businesses treating this as one job, not two, are the ones showing up in both kinds of search results at once.

FAQ

Can this be added to a site that already exists, or only a new build? It can be added to an existing site too — worth a conversation about your specific setup.
