A shop that is open while you sleep.

An e-commerce website is a website people can buy from. Products, prices, a cart, a checkout, and the money in your account — without a phone call. This page explains what it is, why it is worth having, what we can build into yours, and how to tell if it is the right one for you.

What an e-commerce website is

Everything a business website does, plus a till. Your products are listed with photos, descriptions and prices. A visitor picks what they want, adds it to a cart, enters their delivery address, pays with a card, and the order lands in your inbox. You pack it and send it.

Behind that simple picture there are a few moving parts: the shop itself, a payment gateway that takes the card safely and pays the money into your account, shipping rules that work out what delivery costs, stock levels so you do not sell what you do not have, and order management so you can see what has been paid, packed and sent.

We build all of it on WooCommerce — the e-commerce engine for WordPress and the most used shop platform in the world. It is standard, it is yours, and there is no platform taking a percentage of every sale.

Why it is worth having

It sells when nobody is at the counter

A shop on the high street sells to the people who walk past it, during the hours it is open. A shop on the internet sells to the whole country, all night, and it never needs somebody standing behind the till.

That is the whole reason to have one. Your customers can buy at eleven at night from Cape Town. You are not limited by your town or your opening hours. Orders arrive already paid, with the address filled in, so nobody has to take details down over the phone. And because every sale is recorded, you can see which products sell, which get looked at and left, and what each month actually earned.

For a business that already sells products, an online shop is usually the cheapest new branch it will ever open.

What we can build into an online shop

Every shop starts with the same core — products, payment, shipping, orders. What we can do beyond that depends on what you sell and how you run your business.

We set up your categories and products so a stranger can find the right thing quickly. We connect a South African payment gateway and test it properly. We set up delivery by area and weight, or collection, or both. We switch on the things most shops never do — like the automatic email to somebody who filled a cart and left. And we do the product SEO, so your products show up on Google when people search for them, not only when they search for your name.

Where the standard tools stop, we build custom plugins: a courier integration, a stock feed from your accounting system, a size guide, a finance calculator, a bulk-order form for trade customers. If your shop needs it, we can build it.

For the reader deciding

Is an e-commerce website the right one for you?

If people pay for your products online, yes. If they phone about them, probably not — and there is a cheaper answer. Here is how to tell.

Everything in a business website comes with the shop: the copywriting, the design, the SEO foundations, Analytics and Search Console, the three premium plugins, the security and the handover. After launch it is hosted in your name with daily backups, your domain renewal and email included, and update time every month for new products and specials.

Choosing the right website
Is it for youShop, catalogue, or a business website — we will tell you which.

This is the one for you if

  • People pay for your products online, or would if they could
  • You have a range that can be listed with prices
  • You can pack and send orders, or customers can collect
  • You want orders to arrive already paid, with the address in
  • You want to sell beyond your town

You probably need a different one if

  • People phone to ask about your products or services — see Business Websites
  • Nobody pays for what you sell online — vehicles, machinery, property — see the catalogue option above
  • You are paying to send traffic to the site — see Websites Built for Revenue

Questions about online shops

Straight answers

Why WooCommerce and not Shopify?

WooCommerce is standard technology you own, any developer can work on it, and there is no platform fee on every sale. For a South African merchant that usually makes it the cheaper choice as the shop grows. At low volume the difference is small and we will say so — we run your numbers before we recommend anything.

How do I get paid?

Through a South African payment gateway that takes the card securely and pays the money into your bank account. The gateway charges a small percentage per transaction; we choose the one that fits your basket size and volume.

How does delivery work?

We set up delivery rules for how you actually deliver — by area, by weight, by courier, collection in store, free delivery over an amount. The customer sees the delivery cost before they pay, which is one of the things that stops them abandoning the cart.

How many products can I have?

As many as you like. A tight range of twenty products and a catalogue of two thousand are both fine — the structure changes, the platform does not.

I sell vehicles / machinery / property. Do I need a checkout?

No. We build a product catalogue: full listings, filters, and an enquiry or WhatsApp button on every item. The shop experience without the till.

Can you move my existing shop?

Yes — products, customers, orders and domain, without downtime. Tell us where it is now.

Do I own the shop?

Yes, in writing, before you pay anything. Domain, hosting, Analytics and Search Console in your name, files on request, no exit fee, no minimum term.
