Case Study — IGrow

Few leads, and most of them not worth a phone call.

A tight market niche, an acquisition cost that made growth look impossible, and only about one enquiry in five worth following up. Then the budget went up 66% and nothing broke.

Where it started

A small pool, and everybody fishing in it

  • A tight nicheA small pool of buyers, and every competitor bidding for the same ones.
  • A low ceilingA handful of enquiries a day, with no obvious way to make it more.
  • Most of them coldOnly a fraction were worth a phone call. The rest cost the same to generate.
  • Costs that ruled out scaleEvery extra rand bought more of the same conversation, not a better one.

What we changed

Three moves, in order

FirstSearch rebuilt on intentAway from broad terms that everybody bids on, toward the longer phrases people type when they are close to deciding — each one matched to the page it lands on.
ThenSocial that gives before it asksValue-led material instead of an ad that pitches and switches.
ThenFriction taken out of the pathLoad speed, form length, and pages that say what the ad promised.

Month one to month three

What the first three months moved

Everything below is measured against the same account, at the same spend. No extra budget went in — every gain here came from optimisation.

5–8% → 12–16%Interaction rate, weekly average
+300–400%Enquiries a day
10–20% → 55–65%Share of them worth calling
−71 to −79%Cost per lead

The number of enquiries worth calling grew more than tenfold, and the cost of getting to a consultation fell 82% — on the same budget.

Then the budget went up

More money usually costs you quality. It did not here.

Each column is a day’s enquiries. The gold part is the share worth a phone call.

Where it started
About one in five worth calling
After the rebuild
+300–400% enquiries · about three in five worth calling
Budget up 66%
+45–55% enquiries again · +45–65% more of them worth calling

The gold share holds in the third column. That is the whole point: the extra spend bought more of the same quality, not more noise.

Why it held

Three things built before the budget moved

  • The audience was split before it was scaledSegments defined deliberately, so the platforms had rails to run on when the budget widened rather than guessing.
  • Quality was filtered at the door, not afterPre-qualification at the point of capture, so more volume could not dilute what came through.
  • Spend was spread across proven pathsWeight distributed across several small working funnels instead of saturating one.

Scaling is an engineering problem, not a budget problem.
